The buzz from this weekend that the Denver Broncos were working on a trade for Colin Kaepernick, with one caveat: that Kaepernick take a pay cut from his now-guaranteed $11.9 million salary for 2016.

Denver wants to pay Kaepernick $7 million next year, and Kaepernick and the Broncos wanted the San Francisco 49ers to pay the difference.

According to Jason Cole, Kaepernick has said no to taking the pay cut directly, and the 49ers will not pay the difference so the deal is currently off.

Of course, this being a three-way negotiation, things could change quickly if someone blinks. Right now, Denver needs a QB, San Francisco has a player who doesn’t want to be there, and Colin Kaepernick has to decide what is best for his future.
