Von Miller Wants Johnny Manziel on the Broncos

Getting a job in Texas is sometimes as easy as bumping class rings with another Aggie. Johnny Manziel doesn’t have one of those, but Von Miller would like for his boss to hire Manziel just the same.

Miller was leaving Texas A&M just as Manziel was arriving in 2011, so adding Manziel to the Denver Broncos would make them teammates for the first time.

Manziel is an NFL pariah these days, but if he has a chance to play in the NFL this season, it is probably in Denver for coach Gary Kubiak, another Aggie who according to ESPN has spoken to Manziel about a potential fit with the Broncos.

Manziel is facing a misdemeanor assault investigation in Dallas over a confrontation with his ex-girlfriend. The case has been referred to a grand jury, which is expected to hear the case within about a week.

The Broncos need help at quarterback, having lost both Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler this offseason. If the season started today, the starter would be Mark Sanchez.

Manziel is, as ever, a tantalizing prospect, particularly for someone who runs a zone blocking scheme with lots of bootlegs like Kubiak does. And yet Manziel is still a man with substance-abuse issues so severe his father fears for his life.

This would not be the first time you could accuse Kubiak of letting his Aggie loyalty cloud his judgment. While coaching the Houston Texans in 2013, Kubiak stuck with former Texas A&M kicker Randy Bullock, who missed nine field goals in eight weeks, kicking off a 14-game losing streak that cost Kubiak his job.

Manziel told TMZ Saturday that if he could get with Miller, he’d be “in good shape.”
