Will Smith was shot a total of eight times, with six shots hitting him in the back, according to a report by Orleans Parish Coroner Jeffrey Rouse. A preliminary autopsy of Smith’s body revealed that “bullets perforated Smith’s vital organs, including the lungs and heart.”

The bullets apparently entered Smith’s left lower back, left mid-back, left upper back and left lateral chest wall. None of that bodes well for accused killer Cardell Hayes who claims he was acting in self-defense. Hayes currently faces second-degree murder charges.

Smith was shot Saturday night after Hayes allegedly rear-ended his SUV in the Lower Garden District of New Orleans. Smith’s wife, Racquel, was shot once in each leg and remains the the hospital. She is expected to make a full recovery.

Tributes to Smith have poured in from all over the sports world this week, as the former New Orleans Saints defensive end was clearly a beloved teammate and member of the community.
