Rick Carlisle Disagreed With Premise of Chris Broussard's Question

The Mavs were down 89-79 to the Thunder after three quarters, and Chris Broussard asked Rick Carlisle about his team’s offensive success. Without skipping a beat, Carlisle deadpanned, “Well I don’t know how much success [we’ve had], we’re down 10.”

Nevertheless, ESPN showed a graphic at the time indicating that Dallas had shot 70% in the previous quarter, so while Carlisle would certainly have liked the scoreboard to be reversed Broussard’s question wasn’t the dumbest thing in the world.

While the Mavericks are playing with an admirable pluckiness, it is pretty clear after three games that they are outmatched talent-wise in this series. That’s not something a coach would admit during the heat of battle, and Carlisle’s answer was just about the only thing he could say.
