The New York Islanders pulled off a surprise Game 1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday night. Coach Jack Capuano missed a portion of the third period after the took a deflected puck to the face.

While Capuano was being treated, Queen’s “We Will Rock You” blared over the Amalie Arena public address system. It played through the “mud on your face, you big disgrace” lyric. The next verse replaces “mud” with “blood.”

Capuano was literally bleeding from his face into a towel as this happened. Not to don too shiny of a tinfoil hat here, but if the song choice was purely coincidental, it’s some poor p.r. luck for the Lightning. If it was played with the intention of making light of the Islanders coach’s injury, well, that’s about as miserable an example of sportsmanship as we can remember.

Capuano said the puck caught him in the tip of the nose and his injury is nothing too serious. Should the Islanders keep winning, the next Queen song he hears will be more enjoyable.
