Tiger Woods hasn’t played a round of golf on the PGA Tour since August 23, 2015. He’s dropped to 524th in the official world golf rankings. He’s stated that he has no timetable for a return after multiple back surgeries, and now, after nearly nine months away, we hear it straight from the Big Cat’s mouth that he is still not ready to make his return to the sport.

Woods spoke before the Quicken Loans National, and answered a few questions regarding his health and a return to the game. He also addressed Jack’s major championship record and Sam Snead’s wins record, both of which he believes are still attainable.

Woods went on to say that he wants to play and is frustrated that he cannot, but said, “I’m still working. I’m still trying to get stronger.”

People will immediately jump to all sorts of conclusions regarding the state of his game, his mental status, and his physical abilities when he does make his return, but as we’ve seen in recent events, just because you are “older” doesn’t mean you cannot win or be competitive on the PGA Tour. Bernhard Langer was in the hunt at the Masters earlier this year at the age of 58. Ken Duke, who is 47 and was ranked 495th in the world, just put on a spectacular performance at The PLAYERS Championship.

If Woods waits until he is fully healthy, there is no reason not to believe he will someday win again, whether that is a major championship or not still remains to be seen.

Tiger then proceeded to hit three straight shots into the water. It’s quite clear he isn’t ready to return…yet.

Sigh.
