Matt Harvey is Struggling Without the Distractions

Matt Harvey and the Mets are in trouble. Heading into Thursday’s game against the Nationals, Matt Harvey was a mess, but at least he was dominating Bryce Harper. So was Harper able to end his “oh-fer?” Oh yeah.

Harper singled in the first and made booing Matt Harvey fun again as The Dark Knight gave up 9 runs (only 6 earned) and 8 hits in 2.2 innings of work. That’s right, Harvey exited in the third inning. That was bad, but it gets worse.

I don’t think Matt Harvey is distracted.

This is just Harvey concentrating on baseball right now. Pretty much all the celebrities are in the south of France this week at the Cannes Film Festival. Unless he wants to dance with Jimmy Fallon and Carmelo Anthony, there’s nobody around to be distracted by. It has been months since he’s been in the news for something off the field. And even then, it was for a urinary track infection.

Who is Matt Harvey dating? Who knows! What kind of shoes is he wearing? Who cares!

Right now Bartolo Colon’s personal life is more fitting tabloid fodder than Harvey’s. And Colon is more deserving of the extra scrutiny because he’s been a better pitcher this season. And he turns 43 next week!

Things are so bad that Byrce Harper feels bad for him. Because Bryce Harper is a good guy. He wants baseball to be fun again and baseball is fun when Matt Harvey is giving people stuff to complain about off the field. Let’s hope Harvey finds a distraction soon so we can go back to ignoring his actual job performance.
