Yordano Ventura won’t be pitching for a while, as the Kansas City Royals righty was suspended nine games for intentionally throwing at Baltimore Orioles shortstop Manny Machado. Machado subsequently charged the mound, fired some wild punches at Ventura, and earned his own four-game suspension as a result.

For context, Ventura threw at Machado twice in the second inning, then chirped at the 23-year-old two-time All-Star. Then he hit him in the fifth inning, which caused Machado to charge the mound.

Both players plan to appeal their suspensions.

This was nowhere near Ventura’s only incident where he incited a brawl, so we shouldn’t expect his suspension to get reduced by much, if at all.
