Johnny Manziel can’t stay clean. At least that’s the assessment from one of the lawyers handling his domestic violence case. Bob Hinton accidentally sent a text message to The Associate Press indicating that his legal team was seeking a plea deal with prosecutors in the case. Unfortunately, Hinton believes Manziel’s behavior was going to make that difficult.

Hinton claimed that just 15 hours after Manziel was involved in a hit-and-run accident this week, he spent more than $1,000 on drug paraphernalia. He claims he was emailed a receipt that he believes shows Manziel had spent $1,018.77 at a Gas Pipe store at 12:03 p.m. on Tuesday, less than a day after the accident. While Manziel’s name is not on the receipt, someone at the store had apparently circulated it and bragged that the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner had been there and spent the money.

“Heaven help us if one of the conditions (of a deal) is to pee in a bottle,” Hinton said.

The 23-year-old Manziel’s lawyers are pushing for leniency despite his clear struggles with substance abuse. It has been more than a year since Manziel entered rehab. He is accused of hitting and threatening former girlfriend Colleen Crowley during a night out in January.

We all know this is not going to end well. Manziel’s lawyers are clearly as concerned as the rest of us. They are trying to get a deal for their client but his actions seem to be making that difficult. Manziel is completely out of control and doesn’t seem to have any interest in straightening out his life.
