D'Angelo Russell to ESPN Sideline Reporter: "I played like sh!t" After Buzzer-Beater
By Jason McIntyre
The NBA Summer League – it’s fantastic! In a thrilling game between the Lakers and the 76ers, D’Angelo Russell nailed a 28-foot 3-pointer at the buzzer in a showdown between the top two picks in the 2016 draft.
Russell tied the game with :25 left on a long 2-pointer, only to let Philly’s TJ McConnell go right by him for the go-ahead layup with 1.8 left. It appeared Russell’s terrible night would be a headline tomorrow … and then he drained the game-winner over McConnell as the buzzer sounded.
After a celebration worthy of a team that had won a playoff series, Russell was pulled aside by ESPN sideline reporter J.A. Adande, and then shouted, “I played like shit!”
Larry Nance jumped into the interview to remind everyone that Russell, the #2 pick in the 2015 draft, drained a game-winner over an undrafted 2nd year pro.
Russell finished with 22 points, including 17 in the second half.
