Did WWE Telegraph Its New Smackdown General Manager on Its App? [Potential Spoiler]

On WWE Raw last night, Vince McMahon arrived in a limousine and strutted down to the ring to announce that his daughter Stephanie would be in charge of Raw and son Shane in charge of Smackdown. The progeny are to pick general managers for their respective shows on next week’s Raw, and then the “draft” between the two programs will occur on Smackdown – the first new episode airing live – next Tuesday.

After last night’s show, one Twitter user noticed that WWE’s app may have provided a clue as to who Shane’s GM will be:

Yeah … that does sure seem to look like they have Daniel Bryan slated for the role. This past February, Bryan had to retire early from competing in WWE due to sustained head injuries. In addition to being great on the ring, he possessed the rare ability to rile the masses on the microphone, so he would indeed be valuable in this role.

(And, it’s WWE, so this also could be an orchestrated swerve. We’ll know one way or the other Monday!)

This is a little sooner than I thought we’d see him regularly on-air again – and he’s also commentating on the cruiserweight tournament that WWE Network begins airing this Wednesday – but it will be nice to see him. Here’s to wishing the storytelling around this version of his character will be well done.
