Lou Holtz Not a Fan of Immigrant Holidays Or Soccer

Former Notre Dame head coach and ESPN college football analyst Lou Holtz is at the Republican National Convention. Besides sampling Canadian whiskey and celebrating his preferred presidential candidate, he spoke at the Eagle Forum’s pro-life luncheon. He’s not a fan of immigrant holidays or soccer, apparently.

It turns out there many immigrant holidays. Christmas was brought to the United States by immigrants (Can’t forget the Hessians celebrating it to their detriment at Trenton). Halloween is a foreign import. So, is the Gregorian calendar, which eliminates New Year’s Eve. Valentines’ Day? Imported.

Can the former Notre Dame coach celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? Nope. Brought over by immigrants and, in its American iteration, a fusion of traditions from multiple immigrant cultures.

Thanksgiving, while an American creation, celebrates peaceful, tolerant immigration between people of different colors.

We doubt Holtz celebrates the Labor movement. So, scratch off Labor Day.

That leaves Holtz with a brief early summer holiday period consisting of Memorial Day, July 4th, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day, to go with Veteran’s Day. He can also safely choose from an assortment of fake Twitter hashtag days.

Not sure what Holtz’s beef with soccer is. But, we must say June was a traumatic month in Obama’s America with the compulsory Euro 2016 and Copa America viewing.
