JJ Watt, the best defensive player in the NFL, may miss the start of the regular season due to back surgery. Watt had back surgery recently – sometime after the ESPY’s – and he’ll miss at least eight weeks, and possibly 10.

While recovering time is 6-8 weeks, that may be optimistic.

This is potentially a devastating blow to the Texans, who had a tremendous offseason, finally finding a QB (Brock Osweiler), adding a Top 12 running back (Lamar Miller) and drafting a plug-and-play receiver (Will Fuller). The Texans won the lowly AFC South last season, but that was with Andrew Luck sidelined.

Here’s how the Texans open the 2016 season:

vs Chicago
vs Kansas City
at New England (Thursday, no Tom Brady)
vs Tennessee
