Nationals Traded For Mark Melancon From The Pirates

The Washington Nationals were looking for bullpen help. They obtained it, trading for Pittsburgh Pirates reliever Mark Melancon. The Pirates will get left-hander Felipe Rivero and relief pitcher Taylor Hearn.

Melancon, a three-time All-Star had converted 130/144 save opportunities over the last four seasons in Pittsburgh. He was due to be a free agent this winter, after earning $9.65 million in 2016.

Nationals closer Jonathan Papelbon has completed one inning over his last three outings, allowing seven earned runs.
