The 36-year-old Teixeira is a 14-year veteran of Major League Baseball, a three-time All-Star and a five-time Gold Glove winner. His skills have greatly diminished over the past few seasons. He had a solid comeback year in 2015, hitting .255 with 31 home runs, but this year he’s hit just .198 with 10 homers and 27 RBIs.
Teixeira’s eight-year, $180 million contract will expire after the season and he’s decided the grind of baseball is too much to handle for him.
