John Deere Classic TV Schedule, Tee Times, Odds: No Defending Champ Jordan Spieth

While the Olympic golf tournament is taking place in Rio, the PGA Tour is still rolling along, and this week we’ve got the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.

Defending champion Jordan Spieth didn’t feel it would be right to withdraw from the Olympics and compete simultaneously in the John Deere, so he is out this week, but 2014 winner Brian Harman, 2012 winner Zach Johnson, and Steve Stricker, who won in 2009, 2010, and 2011, are all in the field. It should be noted that Stricker has finishes of T2, T3, and 4 in his last four tournaments, with the fourth place finish coming at The Open.

Bryson DeChambeau attempted to Monday qualify for the tournament and didn’t make the cut. He will now have to Monday qualify for the Wyndham Championship where he will need a very good showing. If he were a PGA Tour member, he would currently be ranked 151st on the money list and 165th in FedExCup points, and unless he can qualify for and earn enough points or money to move up into the top 125 of FedExCup standings or the money list, it looks like he’ll have to head to the Web.com Tour and earn his PGA Tour card.

DeChambeau is already entered into the Web.com Tour Finals, a series of four events he gained entry into by earning 235 non-member FedExCup points and $476,621 in winnings while playing through sponsor’s exemptions on the PGA Tour, where he can earn his PGA Tour card if he earns enough money to move into the Web.com Top 25.

Wesley Bryan, who won three Web.com events this season and earned a battlefield promotion, is making his PGA Tour debut as an official member of the Tour. Bryan played in the Quicken Loans National in June on a sponsor’s exemption where he finished T29 at three-under.

My Pick

I debated going with Jon Rahm again, but this week I’m going to take Kevin Na, who can be seen driving a bulldozer in the Instagram video below. Yes, that’s the only reason.
