Two 22-year-old brothers have been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Dwyane Wade’s cousin, Nykea Aldridge, the Associated Press reported.

According to police, Darwin Sorrells Jr. and Derren Sorrels were aiming for someone else when they hit Aldridge, a 32-year-old mother of four, in the arm and head as she was walking to register her children for school. Aldridge was pushing a baby in a stroller when she was hit. The baby was uninjured.

The brothers are also charged with attempted murder.

Violent crime has been on a steady decline in the United States since it peaked in 1993, but Chicago is in the midst of a massive resurgence. In July alone, Chicago saw 63 murders, the most for that month in 10 years.

Wade, who signed with the Bulls this offseason, grew up on Chicago’s South Side, which has been most affected by the swelling violence in the city. His charitable organization, Wade’s World Foundation, does community outreach in the area.
