Smylie Kaufman was pumped this morning for LSU’s opener against Wisconsin and he took that attitude with him to the course at TPC Boston for the second round of the Deutsche Bank Championship. Kaufman opened his round with five birdies, an eagle, and a par in his first seven holes before making back-to-back bogeys on the eighth and ninth. He finished his front nine with a 31 and turned in an even par 35 on the back nine.

Entering the second round, Kaufman was ranked 34th in the FedExCup standings, but is currently projected to move up to seventh if he can hold onto his current position on the leaderboard. This would earn him a spot in the TOUR Championship field of 30 at East Lake in Atlanta.

Kaufman, who is from Birmingham, Alabama, spent his college days on the LSU golf team and turned pro in 2014. He won his first tournament in 2015 at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open and then played in the final pairing with Jordan Spieth at the Masters.
