Indians outfielder Lonnie Chisenhall was at the plate with the bases loaded during the third inning of Thursday’s game against Houston. He chased a low pitch from David Paulino, making clear contact off the bounce and deflecting the ball toward the on-deck circle. Home plate umpire Jim Joyce somehow blew the call — ruling it a wild pitch — allowing two baserunners to score before he halted play.

The play in not reviewable under the rules, so the results stood. Astros manager A.J. Hinch was understandably upset and earned an ejection for arguing the call.

Cleveland won, 10-7.

Considering the fact both teams are in playoff contention, this was a bad time for such a terrible call. And poor Joyce. Just when people begin to forget about the Armando Galarraga incident something like this happens.
