Why Wasn't Cam Newton Checked in Concussion Protocol?

Cam Newton took several big shots to the head in Thursday night’s season-opening loss to the Denver Broncos. We’re having a hard time believing the Carolina Panthers quarterback didn’t suffer a concussion on any of those plays.

Here’s a look at what looked like two terrible helmet-to-helmet shots the reigning NFL MVP took.

The first came in the third quarter, when his helmet connected with Von Miller’s:

The second came on the final drive of the game as the Panthers were marching down the field to try and win it:

That’s just a straight-up dirty hit by Denver safety Darian Stewart. It was an extremely dangerous shot and a fine is almost certainly coming his way. You can’t just launch your helmet into a quarterback’s head. Frankly, Stewart should be suspended for that shot.

We were shocked Newton was able to stay in the game and amazed he didn’t undergo a concussion test.
