Kevin Johnson, the former NBA star and current (controversial) Mayor of Sacramento, was hit in the face with a pie at a Farm-to-Fork charity event at Sacramento High School on Wednesday night. Johnson allegedly reacted to the pie-throwing by beating the attacker to a “bloody pulp.” Via the East Bay Express:

"After this, the protester reportedly said something to Johnson. This prompted the mayor to allegedly tackle the protester and punch him in the face “repeatedly,” more than half a dozen times, landing “five to 10” blows. One witness described it as a “bloody pulp.” Other witnesses say that the pie-thrower was hit multiple times in the face and will definitely need stitches, and that there was visible blood."

UFC fighter Urijah Faber, who fights out of Sacramento, arrived just in time to see the tail end of the incident and gave his account to Sacramento’s KXTV, saying that the attacker “got the worst of it.”

ESPN’s story has a picture of the pie-thrower, Sean Thompson, showing bruises and cuts on his face. Thompson is currently being held on $100,000 bail at the Sacramento County Jail. He has been charged with assault of a public official.
