James Harden, an NBA superstar, has been photographed wearing short shorts. This is of grave consequence to people like me, who reached sports cognizance in the early 1990s, can remember old people complaining about how long the Michigan basketball team’s short were, and are now afraid the world we grew up in has gone away for good.

Could it be that the things I once thought were cool are no longer cool? Am I about to be the old guy at the gym, walking around in unfashionably baggy shorts, getting discreetly photographed for the amusement of teens?
