Jon Dorenbos is a 14-year veteran of the NFL. A long-snapper, two-time Pro Bowler and co-captain for the Philadelphia Eagles, Dorenbos has defied the odds to have an incredible career in football. Now he’s become famous for his exploits off the field, as a magician who gained national fame on “America’s Got Talent” this summer.

Dorenbos wowed the judges on AGT with every performance, and was a crowd and judges’ favorite entering the finals. He wound up placing third.

While he didn’t win, Dorenbos made an impression on everyone who saw him perform and HBO’s “Real Sports” featured him this week for the second time. The piece includes a lot of footage from the program’s first encounter with Dorenbos in 2014, but added new segments about his rise to prominence on AGT.

Watch it below:

Dorenbos’ story goes beyond football and magic, his life is a story of perseverance. When he was just 12 years old, his father murdered his mother and wound up convicted of second-degree murder.  He was sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Though his aunt adopted him, Dorenbos was never the same. Magic helped him escape from that reality and kept him going. It pulled him out of a deep depression, and he claims magic saved his life. He’s passing on his love to others.

Dorenbos is a phenomenal performer on and off the field with an amazing attitude and outlook on life. The word “inspirational” gets thrown around a lot as it relates to sports figures. This is one of the few times it actually applies to the man being profiled.

Here’s a look at all of Dorenbos’ performances on AGT in order. Give them a watch. They truly are special, just like the man who performed them.
