Indians Fan with Banner Mocking the 1986 Red Sox Has to be Kidding

It doesn’t happen often but I’m a bit speechless here. It’s very difficult to believe a Cleveland Indians fan brought a homemade banner mocking the 1986 Boston Red Sox to Game 1 of the American League Division Series but the screengrab speaks for itself.

Are we looking at a Rip Van Winkle situation here? Did this guy hibernate through Boston’s 2004, 2007 and 2013 World Series campaigns? The first one was kind of a big deal.

What’s even worse is that Cleveland hasn’t exactly been reaching the promised land with any regularity. The Indians last won the World Series in 1948. Did this guy forget how big a deal it was that the Cavaliers finally brought a title to the long-suffering city a few months ago?

And finally, uh, 1997 was more recent than 1986 and I believe something relevant to his interest happened that fall.
