Can You Remember Seeing a More Terrible Shot than this One by Joakim Noah?

OK, watch this.

It’s no surprise to see Noah shoot an ugly shot. Anybody who’s ever seen him shoot a free throw already knows Noah can’t tell the difference between a shot and a chest pass. And shots have been missed by a wider margin.

But this here … Noah looks like a person who has never played basketball before. You’d think if you hung around basketball gymnasiums for 20 or 30 years you’d pick up some shooting techniques just by osmosis. But no. It looks like Shawn Marion’s shot, except Shawn Marion was a pretty good shooter.

It’s hard to remember a time in a professional basketball game when I saw a player look this uncomfortable and incompetent at a basic basketball skill.

If you watch enough basketball, you’ll see plenty of terrible shots, but most of them are desperate heaves, half-hearted trick shots or awkward responses to calamity.

Noah was not beating the clock, or dodging a defender or responding to a stimulus of any kind. He wasn’t even guarded. I’m wondering: Is this the worst shot in NBA history?

People don’t curate “worst shots in NBA history” like they do with dunks or game-winners, so you can think of a worse one, let me know.
