Chicago Cubs catcher Miguel Montero delivered an RBI single in the top of the 10th inning last night to give his team an 8-6 lead. It proved to be the game-winning run.

Montero, whose only other postseason hit was a grand slam, sent out a somewhat self-deprecating tweet about his woeful regular season after arriving back in Chicago this morning.

He’s right. Few remembered. I looked into it and he hit .216 this season. Not that you or anyone else cares.

Stats are for nerds. Clutch performances are for champions.
