Mike Francesa: Bill Simmons Will Succeed Again But He's Not a TV Talent

Mike Francesa weighed in on HBO’s decision to cancel Bill Simmons’ television show “Any Given Wednesday” during his show on Friday and had a shockingly reasonable take. Francesa basically said Simmons would be fine because he’s talented, but that he should realize he’s not a TV personality.

Here’s his take on it:

" Mike reacts to the @BillSimmons HBO show being canceled. CLIFFS: Bill will be foyne. He’ll send Bill a note. Mike didn’t watch the show. pic.twitter.com/2WbzFt2bjy — Funhouse (@RNs_Funhouse) November 5, 2016"

Francesa repeatedly saying that Simmons is “not a TV talent” could sting. It’s the truth but hearing it from someone who is supportive might make him rethink some of his choices moving forward.

Francesa’s take pretty much lines up with mine. Simmons isn’t good on television and he never has been. His meandering takes work well when he writes or on his podcast because people expect that kind of thing from a column or something they’re listening to. On television there needs to be a hard structure — especially in a 30-minute show — and Simmons just isn’t the guy to work in that space.

Francesa also claimed he would write Simmons a note telling him he’ll be “fine” and admitted that he never really watched the show. But it is surprising since the two seem like friends, yet Francesa didn’t even take the time to check out the show.
