It was like an hour ago when the sports world was abuzz about Kevin Love, who had made eight 3-pointers and scored 34 points in the first quarter of Wednesday’s game against Portland. It wasn’t a record-setting quarter — Klay Thompson once scored 37 in a quarter — but Love had a real look at breaking Stephen Curry’s record for single-game 3-pointers (13), and setting a new career high in points.

Neither of those things wound up happening. Not even close.

In a turn of events that could only happen in professional sports, Love followed his 34-point quarter with a zero-point quarter, then scored six points in the second half to finish with 40.

Love finished 12-for-20 from the field, 8-for-12 from the 3-point line and 8-for-8 at the foul line.
