Joe McKnight was shot and killed on Thursday in Terrytown, Louisiana and a ton of questions still have not been answered about the incident. On Friday, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand and his department addressed the situation and released a statement. Their current belief is that McKnight was standing at the passenger-side window of shooter Ronald Gasser’s car.

Here’s the statement:

McKnight did not have a gun in his possession and the statement contradicts a witness who said Gasser stood over McKnight and fired a final shot into his body.

Gasser has been released from custody with no charges filed and the investigation is ongoing.

We’ll have more as this story develops.
