Rashaan Salaam’s death rocked the sports world on Tuesday. The former NFL running back was found deceased in a Boulder, Colorado park late Monday night at just 42 years old. Salaam’s mother, Khalada has told USA TODAY sports that a note was found, and police believe the death was a suicide.

The 1994 Heisman Trophy winner and 1995 first-round pick starred at Colorado before being drafted by the Chicago Bears. Salaam’s last post on his Facebook page came on November 27 where he posted video of Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Dionne Warwick and Stevie Wonder singing “That’s What Friends Are For.” In the post Salaam said “Keep smiling” and labeled it “feeling joyful.”

Many questions still have to be answered in this situation. We’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
