Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin has agreed to become Florida Atlantic’s next head coach, according to multiple reports. He is expected to remain in his current position through the College Football Playoffs.

Kiffin was previously reported as a serious candidate for the Houston job as well as the LSU offensive coordinator position. Florida Atlantic is obviously a step down, profile-wise. The reported five-year deal may include a pay cut but will afford him his first head coaching job since being fired by USC in 2013.

At 41, Kiffin must believe using the FAU job as a springboard to the main gig at a major program or in the NFL is a better option than taking another offense-only position right now.
