Where Should Tennessee Turn Next In Coaching Search?

Mike Gundy met with Tennessee athletic director John Currie on Tuesday, and it went so well the 50-year-old head coach immediately tweeted the following:

Wow, it didn’t take long for Gundy to decide to stay at his alma mater.

With yet another embarrassing, public miss now on the record for Currie, what is next in his search to replace the departed Butch Jones…or wait…are we counting Greg Schiano as the school’s last head coach? Can we get an official ruling on this?

It’s clear now Currie should be following this here website. On Monday I wrote that he should focus his search on Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm and USC offensive coordinator Tee Martin.

Brohm has a great offensive mind and has done great stuff in his short time as a head coach, and Martin is a Tennessee legend who is one of the nation’s best recruiters.

No one truly believed Gundy was going to leave Stillwater. Sure his mullet would have felt at home in Knoxville, but pursuing him was nothing but a pointless sidetrack for the search. It was a moronic dalliance, and only led to another public embarrassment.

It’s time for this search to get serious and for Currie to pursue a legitimate option for his school’s football vacancy.
