Gary Danielson: Ignore the SEC Championship Game, Put Alabama In the Playoff

“I don’t think the committee should take this game into affect at all,” he said. “I think Game 1 to the last game, Alabama’s been the most consistent team. I think you could make the argument that top to bottom they have not had any bad games. They’re one of the four best teams.”

Danielson — we hope — was talking about a situation where Alabama and Ohio State were vying for the final spot in the playoff and not judging the Tide too harshly for the Auburn loss. If he was somehow advocating for Alabama to get in over Georgia … well, that would be a blistering and indefensible take.

Either way, it’s odd to hear a serious football expert suggest ignoring a fairly important data point.
