Tennessee (Reportedly) Finally Has a New Coach: Alabama Defensive Coordinator Jeremy Pruitt

The Tennessee Volunteers’ long coaching vacancy nightmare may have finally come to a merciful end. Tennessee is reportedly finalizing a deal with Alabama Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt.

Sources tell ESPN that Tennessee is in the process of trying to finalize a deal with Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt after offering him the job earlier in the day. Vols also interviewed Auburn DC Kevin Steele and Georgia DC Mel Tucker.

Pruitt, 43, played at Alabama and held various coaching jobs at Alabama before becoming defensive coordinator in 2016. Under Pruitt Alabama gave up an average of 11.5 points a game this season and 11.8 points last season. He has won two national championships as a member of the Alabama coaching staff and one with Florida State.
