Bill Belichick is Pulling a George Costanza So People Won't Bother Him at Work

Bill Belichick’s tired act of being the most aggravated person in the world when presented with fair questions was on full display last night. A reporter asked about the New England Patriots potentially looking forward to next week’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and if that had any impact on the unexpected loss.

Belichick responded by contorting his face into the embodiment of deep pain and muttered “give me a break” under his breath. Then he moved on to give brief answers to the rest of the queries.

It was a very believable impression of a man getting a root canal while undergoing an IRS audit. Just as a reminder: this was after his team lost a regular-season football game, not after his entire family disowned him after losing the farm or anything. You know, just for perspective.

But you know what? I’m realizing that I may have been too hard on Belichick in the past. Maybe he’s just brilliantly employing a George Costanza tactic so he won’t be bothered at work.

And look, if true, one has to respect such commitment to the bit. Belichick looks annoyed all the time thus reporters walk on eggshells around him.

Of course, this is a tough hypothesis to prove. I’d only say that Belichick would be smart enough to appear cantankerous in his private life as well to sell the work version of himself as believable.

The other option? The guy’s just kind of a jerk.
