Jim Caldwell, who may be on the hot seat barring a miracle playoff run by the Detroit Lions, is one of the many NFL coaches who enjoys giving the media as little information as humanely possible. His standoff-ish demeanor is a hot topic for local radio shows and does little to curry favor with the fanbase.

Considering this, it’s not a total surprise he stonewalled about the dumbest topic imaginable during today’s press availability. But it is still ridiculous.

" Jim Caldwell walked in for his daily press conference. A reporter asked him if he had a favorite movie. And he offered the most Caldwellian answer possible. “I do, but I care not to share it,” he said. “You might misunderstand and I don’t have time to explain.”"

Uhh, okay. Let the speculation begin. What is Caldwell’s favorite movie and how could it possibly be misconstrued?

More importantly, who would answer a question like this? It seems an odd attempt to avoid a topic. A trivial non-story is now a much bigger one because of his bizarre and cryptic response.

If you ask someone what’s in a closet and they say, “you might misunderstand,” that’s going to pique curiosity way more than if they simply say “extra towels.” You’ll become obsessed wondering what the heck was in the closet.

If you ask someone their favorite food and they say, “you might misunderstand,” that would likely be the last time you broke bread together.

Bizarre stuff.
