Best Finish: T10 in 2015 at Whistling Straits
Finish in 2017: T44
2018 Wins/Top Finishes: 2 – Safeway Open, T2 – Genesis Open, T10 – Masters, 6 – Zurich Classic, 5 – U.S. Open, T9 – Open Championship, T10 – WGC-Bridgestone Invitational

At this point of the season there is absolutely no reason to believe that Tony Finau won’t make a run at the PGA Championship. He did it at the Masters, followed it up at the U.S. Open, and played well at The Open. It feels like Finau may be one of those guys that, like Brooks Koepka, everything seems to just start clicking in a major and the next thing you know he’s got two of them. He’s worth the risk.

Best Finish: T10 in 2016 at Baltusrol
Finish in 2017: T13
2018 Wins/Top Finishes: Win – Valspar Championship, T5 – Wells Fargo Classic, T2 – Travelers Championship

Paul Casey made our best that have yet to win a major championship list because the guy always seems to be in the top 10 in a major once or twice a year. Casey hasn’t missed a top 10 finish in at least one major in a season since 2014. He hasn’t finished in the top 10 in one this year, but he could easily change that with a win this week.

Best Finish: Um … he missed the cut last season, his rookie year
Finish in 2017: MC
2018 Wins/Top Finishes: T3 – CIMB Classic, T2 – The Players, T6 – U.S. Open, T2 – Open Championship

Xander Schauffele has come out of nowhere to finish T6 at the U.S. Open, after a T5 finish last year, and T2 at The Open. This is Schauffele’s second season on the PGA Tour and he is already showing signs that he is going to be very good. While he has no wins this season, he did win The Greenbrier Classic and TOUR Championship in 2017. If you’re looking for a little bit of a risky pick, he may be your guy.

Best Finish: 2 in 2010 at Whistling Straits
Finish in 2017: MC
2018 Wins/Top Finishes: Win – Genesis Open, Win WGC-Match Play, T5 – Masters, Win – Travelers Championship

Sure, Bubba Watson may not seem like a long-shot considering he’s won two major championships before, but last season he missed the cut in the Masters, U.S. Open, and PGA Championship. It was a bad year for him. 2018 has been totally different as he’s already won three tournaments and finished T5 at the Masters. While Watson did miss the cut at the U.S. Open and Open Championship, Bellerive is more suited to his game than either Shinnecock or Carnoustie.

Best Finish: T7 in 2015 at Whistling Straits
Finish in 2017: T9
2018 Wins/Top Finishes: T5 – Phoenix Open, T8 – Houston Open, T9 – Open Championship

Eventually Matt Kuchar has to win one of these things, right? Kuch has finished in the top 10 in three of his last PGA Championship starts. In 2015 he finished T7 and in 2017 he finished T9. At 40 years old, it feels like his time is running out, but Kuchar has still managed to show up in majors. He’s got four top 10 finishes in majors since the 2017 Masters.
