For the second time in four days, Argentina and Mexico face each other in a high-profile international friendly, this time at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas in Mendoza, Argentina on Tuesday night.
Date: Tuesday, Nov. 20th
Time: 6:30 PM ET
TV Channel: UniMas, UDN
The first game was a fun one on Friday, with Argentina winning 2-0 on a goal at the end of each half. It was a competitive friendly, with both teams really going for it, and we shouldn’t expect anything different from the second game. Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni will change his starting lineup and formations on Tuesday, and has already won once in this mini-series, he really wants to use the opportunity to try something different in what’s likely to be his final game coaching the national team.
Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti is also expected to change his El Tri side, but the pressure on him to win looms larger after Friday. Not having injured PSV star Hirving Lozano hurts, and the Argentina side is expected to have a lot of their best, more prominent players outside of the injured Messi. Mexico are still strong enough to play better and get a good result, but the players and coach alike know that Tuca is almost assuredly on his way out to give way for Atlanta United’s Tata Martino.
Two friendlies in a row between the same teams don’t sound exciting, but the first game proved these two nations hate losing even when the stakes are low. While continental tournaments and World Cup 2022 feel a long way off, it’s crucial for managers to begin introducing young players in a low-risk environment for experimentation. Expect an incredible amount of intensity as new and returning players alike eagerly attempt to cement their status in the team and impress new and soon-to-be-appointed coaches.
