This will be the first meeting between these two teams since they made a blockbuster trade in the summer that sent Leonard and Danny Green to Toronto for DeMar DeRozan and Jakob Poeltl. The trade happened due to Kawhi’s season-long issues with the San Antonio front office because of disagreements on his injury, which caused the 27-year-old to request a move away from the Spurs.

Kawhi’s departure made him enemy number one in San Antonio, and we should expect that kind of reception from the Spurs fans on Thursday. DeMar DeRozan is also a big part of this story, and he’s still extremely disappointed with the way he was treated by the Raptors. There is no doubt DeRozan has had this matchup marked on his calendar since the schedule came out and he will bring his best.

Unfortunately, DeRozan won’t be able to face his best friend from his Toronto days as Kyle Lowry is expected to miss the game due to a back injury. The Raptors will also be missing center Jonas Valanciunas, but all the other key players are expected to be available. The Spurs are quite healthy at the moment, and full of confidence thanks to 10 wins in their last 13 games.

The best team in the East faces the hottest team in the West, with plenty of drama and anticipation added to what is already expected to be a high-quality basketball game. Expect a fun affair featuring stars hungry for some payback, and a Spurs crowd ready to rain down boos on their former main marksman, Kawhi Leonard.
