This has been a much-anticipated game not just because of the rivalry between these two teams, but because tonight marks the Warriors debut and the NBA return of center DeMarcus “Boogie” Cousins, who has missed almost a full year with a torn Achilles tendon, but is finally ready to play basketball again. Cousins signed with the Warriors last July and much has already been debated regarding his role within the offense and his presence in the locker room, but now we finally get to watch him on the court with his new teammates.
Cousins debuts amid the Warriors’ best run of the season, winning six in a row and eight of their last 10. Stephen Curry cannot miss a shot, Kevin Durant is quietly having an incredible season, Klay Thompson is on fire, and Draymond Green looks solid again after three subpar months for one of the league’s most complete players. It’s very interesting to see how the addition of another offensive superstar will impact this team when they’re playing so well, but the Warriors are very excited about Boogie and will do everything to make him feel comfortable.
The Clippers are not in a good mood after four straight losses. They’ve fallen rapidly down the standings in the West, and they might be out of the playoff group by the start of next week. Doc Rivers and his men need to react, and they’d love to get that reaction against the champions and spoil Cousins’ debut.
This is a fascinating game for so many reasons, and it’s one of the few regular season games in the NBA that are truly must-watch for everyone, not just fans of the teams involved.
