Two teams battling to cement their places among the NBA’s elite will collide on Monday evening as the Philadelphia 76ers play host to the Houston Rockets at Wells Fargo Center.

The 76ers (.638) are fourth in the Eastern Conference after playing 47 games, while Houston sits fifth in the Western Conference 45 matches into their campaign, each placed just outside their respective hierarchies.

Philadelphia has won three of their last four outings but they were beaten at home by the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday and face another swift test of their gumption in Week 15.

Houston has not been able to maintain the same standards this year since they ended 2018 on such a high, and after winning six in succession, they’ve now failed to win back-to-back games in nine outings.

They’ll have the chance to break that streak on Monday, hoping they can follow up Saturday’s 138-134 overtime win against the Los Angeles Lakers with a victory over another major NBA name.

High-flying James Harden remains the most prolific man in the NBA this season and has finished as Houston’s top scorer for the last 24 games in succession (since their December 1st win against Chicago).

Center Chris Capela was the last Rockets players to take that accolade, but he’ll be out injured for Monday’s fixture following thumb surgery.

Chris Paul has been struggling with a hamstring injury but could come back this week, per ESPN, while Brandon Knight remains sidelined (knee). Philadelphia point guard Markelle Fultz is still recovering from a shoulder injury and won’t play on Monday.

The 76ers have lost at home five times this season and only once suffered back-to-back home defeats. Joel Embiid has been in fine form of late, leading the team in points (27.0) and rebounds (13.2) per game, and Philadelphia’s star center will be critical to the hosts turning up a result.
