After a six-point win over Nebraska on Thursday, the Spartans reached 11 straight victories overall, and 19 straight in Big Ten play only, the best in the history of the program. Head coach Tom Izzo admitted his team wasn’t at its best and were somewhat lucky to escape with a victory thanks to Nebraska missing some open shots down the stretch, but a win is a win and the confidence is still high going into a massive game against the Terrapins.

Maryland defeated Ohio State by 14 points on Friday behind another 20-point output by point guard Anthony Cowan Jr., who extended his streak of 20 or more points to four games in conference play, the best by any Terrapin since they moved to the Big Ten. Cowan, one of the best defenders in the league, will be tasked with guarding Michigan St. point guard Cassius Winston, one of the best players and the leading assist man in the conference this season.

Winston vs. Cowan is without a doubt the individual battle to watch in this one, but there is also a duel between big men that is very interesting: MSU’s Nick Ward and Maryland’s Bruno Fernando. Fernando struggled against the Spartans last season, but a year of experience and a strong sophomore season so far will give the forward the belief he can hold his own against the likes of Nick Ward, who ranks top-12 in the conference in scoring, rebounding and blocks per game.
