The New York Knicks will have two max openings this summer. With several of the biggest stars in the NBA set to become free agents, they have the chance to crated the next great duo.

Here are the five best options:

5. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving

If the two of them could get along, the MSG would be the show of shows. But that is a big if. This also would not be the best basketball fit. Kevin Durant and Steph Curry often play your turn, my turn and that would be the case here with Irving. But there is no denying the two together would instantly make the Knicks one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.

4. Klay Thompson and Kawhi Leonard

Klay Thompson and Kawhi Leonard would be a nightmare to defend and for offenses to score on. Thompson would thrive as the go-to scoring option for the first time in his NBA career. It cannot be said enough how much his loss would diminish the Warriors and put them back on a level playing field with the rest of the NBA.

Oh, and he still may not be the best player on the team.

3. Jimmy Butler and Kyrie Irving

Out of all these duos, this would is the most likely to come to fruition. The two teaming up was heavily rumored before the season. The goal of the two alphas teaming up in Gotham City is that it would come in a way of diminishing both the 76ers and the Celtics. The Knicks would still need to fill out the roster around them including help in the frontcourt.

2. Kevin Durant and Kawhi Leonard

Kawhi Leonard may not want to play with LeBron, but what about Durant? Leonard is the best two-way player in basketball and Durant is on his way to becoming the best. Not many would be laughing at the Knicks if they joined forces in the Mecca.

1. Kevin Durant and Anthony Davis

Today’s trade only makes it harder to put together a quality package for Anthony Davis. If they can, however, and Durant joins him, there is no better situation that can be envisioned for the Knicks. Bringing in two of the three best players in the world would make up for the decades of disappointment in New York. Well, almost. KD and AD would position the Knicks well on their way to their first championship since 1973.
