Here are five thoughts on the Battle of Winterfell that took place in  Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 3. Includes spoilers of last night’s episode:

We don’t need to know any more about the White Walkers

If the Night King and his army are dead for good, I have some doubts; it would likely mean what we know about the creatures is all we will know. Which, based on reactions, is not enough for most people. However, we really don’t need to know anything more about them. We know how they were created, the moment it happened, how to kill them, their fate, and thanks to Bran, what they were after. This story was never about them. It has always been about Jon Snow and his path. The White Walkers were never anything more than a step toward whatever the reason is the Lord of Light brought Jon back to life.

Sure, it would have been cool if the Night King was Rhaegar Targaryen or someone with a history, but it wasn’t needed.

How many dragons are left?

Large portions of this episode were difficult to see. Brilliantly, I might add. Nevertheless, it is unclear exactly who is still alive. That technically includes the dragons. A popular theory over the past 10 hours is that one of the dragons was lost. I say there’s no way. They are not killing a dragon in a way everyone isn’t a part of it. One or both of them may be wounded, but there is no chance another one died like that. Not to say Cersei won’t add one to her list of murders, but it would be shocking if there are not two dragons come next episode.

Tyrion and Sansa

There is no time for love right now. With that said, if there ever comes a time for love, it sure seems like Tyrion and Sansa could be falling in it. This was clearly teased this week. There is no other explanation for the scene with the two lying next to each other realizing there was nothing either could do to save anyone. The former married couple may have to wait until the last episode if there is something here. Not to mention this comes at a time where there is no reason for Sansa to leave the North when the next battle takes place, while Tyrion must head South to the capital.

This would be a happy ending, though, right?

You know nothing, viewer

What a great thing to say with three episodes left. Look, obviously there is another war to take place. And the Throne is on stake this time around. But there is nothing known right now about how the show is getting there. Jon is yet to tell the rest of his family and friends who he truly is. What their reaction will be remains as mysterious as Daenerys’, who has yet to have the time to reveal her thoughts on the matter. How they will go about their trip to King’s Landing is now much less optional. The army has been decimated and Cersei’s is as large as ever, thanks to her new alliance with the Golden Company. Perhaps Cersei’s inevitably malicious plan should be the focus. All that has been said is she has a plan for Daenerys, her brothers, and she cryptically had no fear of the White Walkers (“good”). Oh, and what is next for Bran? Does he have the same value now in a war amongst just the living?

What an episode

Blah, blah, blah. People are mad again. Who cares. This was as good of an episode as there ever has been. What just took place will never happen again on television. It was unique, riveting, scary, sad, happy, and shocking. Just think about this again. When it looked like the White Walkers were really going to win, Arya, out of nowhere, kills the Night King! This is a show that is filled with moments that will be discussed forever, and yet none were as lasting as that one. Just like I said the action was coming when everyone complained there hadn’t been any, I now say the major deaths are coming. There is no reason to believe the most murderous woman in the world is letting an army with Starks, Targaryens, and her brothers all walk out alive.

A+ episode.
