GNC said that Brown would “educate aspiring athletes and fitness enthusiasts on living a healthy, athletic life – and how GNC products can help enhance and support those goals – through the use of social media, video, appearances and marketing materials.”

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The company said it hired Brown based on her skills and looks. According to Jeff Hennion, evp/CMO at GNC,  “Jenn’s extensive background in sports and media, both as an athlete, journalist and Under Armour model, will help our GNC team deliver our Live Well message to millions of fellow health enthusiasts.”

The deal had to be approved by executives at ESPN. Earlier this year, ESPN initiated full-disclosure guidelines for on-air personalities who sign endorsement or promotional deals that relate directly to products or services such as athletic equipment, apparel or footwear companies “most notably the ones that supply the teams and athletes regularly covered by ESPN.”

The move came after it was discovered that Erin Andrews had a deal with Reebok and that Chris Fowler, Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit had Nike deals.

“Having been a student athlete throughout my life, participating as an honor student in diving, volleyball, basketball, softball and track & field in high school and as a NCAA softball player at the University of Florida, I know and understand the value of education, health and nutrition,” Brown said in a statement.  “Being part of the GNC team, I am looking forward to continuing my efforts to inform, educate and inspire fellow fitness enthusiasts on living a healthy and balanced lifestyle.”
