Bill Simmons Will Be Doing a Weekly Show on HBO
By Jason Lisk
Bill Simmons will be joining HBO in October, according to the New York Times. He will get a talk show starting in 2016. In addition, he will have a production deal to do video podcasts.
“It’s no secret that HBO is the single best place for creative people in the entire media landscape.” Bill Simmons said in a statement, “it was hard to imagine being anywhere else.”
Note that this still permits Simmons freedom when it comes to writing or developing his own website (or with a different entity). The marriage with HBO isn’t a shock. It was referenced when we discussed why ESPN balked at paying Simmons. It would seem to be a creative fit with Simmons, and HBO can do high-quality production similar to what Simmons began with the 30-for-30 series at ESPN.
