Billy Hamilton Scored on a Pop Up to Second Base
By Mike Cardillo
Billy Hamilton, the Reds rookie speedster, tagged up and scored on this pop fly to Cardinals right fielder Jon Jay Wednesday afternoon. As you can see the ball was so shallow it could have been caught by St. Louis second baseman Kolten Wong. Earlier in the inning Hamilton tagged up from second to third on another shallow ball to the outfield.
I wrote last fall, Hamilton’s speed could have a game-changing impact and serve as a reminder to the go-go days of the 1980s. This is assuming Hamilton hits enough to get to first base.
As it stands, Hamilton appears to be the fastest man in professional baseball since Vince Coleman in RBI Baseball.
