Bobby Valentine: "You couldn’t find a Yankee on the streets of New York City" in Week After 9/11

Bobby Valentine went on WFAN’s midday show Wednesday to talk about 9/11 and his role — along with the Mets — in the tragic event’s aftermath. Valentine, a serial pot-stirrer, used this time to make some eyebrow-raising comments about how the Yankees were noticeably absent in the days following the attacks on the World Trade Center.

"“Let it be said that during the time from 9/11 to 9/21, the Yankees were (not around),” Valentine told Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts on Wednesday. “You couldn’t find a Yankee on the streets of New York City. You couldn’t find a Yankee down at Ground Zero, talking to the guys who were working 24/7.”"

Huh? Why turn a 9/11 remembrance into something like this?

Valentine is one of those guys who seems like he can’t help himself for putting his foot in his mouth at all times, but he’s not alone. Somehow, with the advent of social media, companies, teams, etc. continue to make misguided attempts to remember one of America’s darkest moments.
