Brandon Triche Charge/Block Call Doesn't Quite Qualify as Controversial. Michigan 61, Syracuse 56
By Jason McIntyre
Michigan 61, Syracuse 56 didn’t come down to one play like some are claiming happened in Wichita State-Louisville (I disagree that the jump ball moment was questionable), but this Brandon Triche charge call in the final minute falls under “unfortunate.”
Did reserve Jordan Morgan – a junior who started much of the year, until freshman Mitch McGary began to take over – get there in time? Were his feet moving? You be the judge. The play did foul out Syracuse guard Brandon Triche, but thanks to Michigan clanging free throws, Syracuse still had a shot to tie the game in the final :10.
But with Triche and Michael Carter Williams having fouled out, the Orange had to rely on freshman Trevor Cooney, and he botched it, and Michigan held on. So Michigan vs. Louisville Monday night for the title. The Cardinals, who have a big edge inside, are early 4-point favorites.
