Brewers Second Baseman Scooter Gennett Needed Five Stitches After Cutting His Hand in the Shower
By Mike Cardillo
How bad are things for the Milwaukee Brewers two weeks into April? Glad you asked. Not only do the Brewers own worst record in baseball (2-10), they’re now the unofficial leaders for dumbest in-season injury thanks to second baseman Scooter Gennett.
Monday Gennett posted a photo to Instagram showing how he needed stitches near his middle finger while reaching for the body wash that was sitting in a metal rack in the PNC Park Showers. The team is unsure if he’ll need to go on the disabled list or not. Gennett was relatively upbeat about the whole thing, via the Journal-Sentinel:
"“It was definitely a freakish thing,” Gennett said in the clubhouse Monday afternoon. “I tried to grab some body wash, like I would normally grab body wash, and scraped it on the bottom (of the rack). I didn’t feel anything then it started bleeding everywhere. At a certain angle, they’re sharp. I found the right angle and sliced it open. “I knew I would need stitches and I ended up getting five. It kind of sucks because I feel I have my strength and everything but something like that you could reopen and make it worse. I could keep re-aggravating it. It’s sort of a day to day thing. I have to come in every day and re-evaluate it. I think the stitches will stay in around 12 days, the doctor was saying.”"
The Brewers host the Reds tonight. At the very least they still have Hank the Dog.
